After walking out of the Gibson Desert at the age of eight, in 1945, Linda and her family settled at the Haasts Bluff Lutheran Mission.  She attended the mission school, where she was taught the main tenets of Christianity.  Her paintings over many years, have illustrated these topics, which include the Birth, Last Supper, Crucifixion and Ascension.  She was a finalist in the Blake Prize for Religious Art for seven consecutive years.  She was also a finalist in the Mary MacKillop Art Award, in Adelaide.  The painting delt with the treatment of Mary by the Bishops.  A colleague said to her “Mary, you are coming into a Nest of Crosses”.  The painting had a nest surrounded by crosses, together with the symbol of the Josephite Order of Nuns.  The painting was shown at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, where it was included with a small group of other finalists in a private showing for the Pope, John Paul during his visit to Sydney.  Her painting was purchased by the Art gallery of South Australia.

Linda often thinks about her time at Haasts Bluff Mission, and has fond memories of the missionary pastors who looked after her and her family.
