In this particular painting June’s intricate pattern represents design elements associated with Alpar – the rat tail plant.  This herbaceous plant is valued for it’s abundance of tiny edible black seeds.   The leaves of this plant can be soaked in water and used as a medicinal wash or ground and mixed with animal fat and used as an ointment.
